11th European Young Engineers Conference at WIChiP

On April 17-19, 2023, the 11th edition of the European Young Engineers Conference (EYEC) was held at our Faculty. The conference's principal organiser is the Scientific Club of Chemical and Process Engineering "Venturi."

The topics discussed during the conference inspired the audience to search for new research topics, take risks and cross the boundaries of their discipline.

In the speech opening the conference, Professor Tomasz Sosnowski, Vice-Dean for Research at the Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering at Warsaw University of Technology, said:

The European Young Engineers Conference (EYEC), which has a long tradition - now its 11th edition - provides young scientists with an excellent opportunity to present, often for the first time in their lives, the results of their research in a broader forum. The interdisciplinarity of the conference and the international environment are conducive to broadening the scientific horizons of young EYEC participants and establishing valuable social contacts based on conversations about their scientific interests. It is also worth emphasising that this is a conference organised by young people for young people, as it is organised by the Scientific Club "Venturi" of students of WIChiP WUT, with, no doubt, great sympathy and organisational and financial support of the Faculty.

I am glad that this year we managed to return to the conference in person (and not online, as in 2021 and 2022) and that we could also have young researchers from the Kyiv and Lviv Polytechnics among the foreign guests, whose arrival was possible thanks to the financial support of NAWA and the efficient operation of the Center for International Cooperation of the Warsaw University of Technology. It is also worth noting the presence of eminent scientists delivering opening plenary papers: Prof. Jörg Vienken - former President of the International Federation of Artificial Organs (IFAO), and Prof. Sotiris Pratsinis of ETH Zürich, among others.

I am sure the next generations of students working in our Scientific Club will continue the EYEC organisation. The Conference has become the hallmark of our Faculty and the entire Warsaw University of Technology.

The Organizing Committee composed of members of the Scientific Club of Chemical and Process Engineering "Venturi" was chaired by Eng. Radoslaw Gernaszewski. The complete list of the Committee members is available here.

As mentioned in his speech by Prof. Tomasz Sosnowski, this year, thanks to cooperation with the Center for International Cooperation and funding from the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA), 15 students from the Kyiv Polytechnic and the Lviv Polytechnic took part in the conference. Two talked about their impressions of EYEC and their visit to Warsaw.

I study biomedical engineering, and I'm in my 4th year. My supervisor told me about the conference, and the mobility department gave me full information about it. The biggest benefit for me personally is meeting a lot of new and interesting people here. Also, this conference is my first experience presenting my research outside of my university. I loved the organisation of the conference, it was excellent, and I also adored a lot of presentations, especially Prof. Sotiris E. Pratsinis' presentation. My visit to Warsaw was excellent, I love how people here are friendly and open to communication. And, of course, Warsaw itself is breathtaking, and I really want to come here again in future for sightseeing and rest.

Maryna Kantur, Kyiv Polytechnic

I study Computer Science at Lviv Polytechnic National University, the third year of my bachelor's degree. I found out about the conference on the Instagram page of the Center for International Education at Lviv Polytechnic National University. I saw an advertisement for the conference. During the conference, I increased my knowledge in environmental protection, bioengineering, biotechnology, and biomedical and chemical engineering.

I am so grateful to the organisers of the conference and the Warsaw University of Technology for creating such a great event and for their hospitality. There I made a lot of acquaintances with great people, and it was a great experience.

This is not my first visit to Poland, but I have never been to Warsaw before the conference. So I enjoyed the contrast between the modern city and the old town. Thanks to the Warsaw Old Town City Games, which were organised by the students of Warsaw University of Technology, I found many interesting facts about the city. Besides, Warsaw Uprising Museum is one of the best museums I have ever visited.

I am fascinated by the hospitality of the Polish people and the support they share with Ukraine. Diękuję, Polacy!

Evelina Verkhola, Lviv Polytechnic

We want to thank all participants of the conference for their presence and the organisers for another successful edition of EYEC. Next conference in a year!
