Course title Process Thermodynamics
Lecturer prof. dr hab. Andrzej K. Biń
dr inż. Piotr Machniewski (ćwiczenia projektowe)
mgr inż. Robert Hubacz (ćwiczenia projektowe)
Semester Spring
Description The course deals with fundamentals of process thermodynamics. It includes basic knowledge of mass and energy balances, principles of thermodynamics in closed and open systems, cycles, physical and chemical properties of substances, phase and chemical equilibria.
Prerequisites The knowledge of mathematics (calculus, ODE, statistics), as well as physical chemistry is assumed. Basic knowledge of programs such as Excel and Mathcad is an asset.
Course content Mass, energy and entropy balances in closed and open (steady-state flow) systems; power, refrigeration and liquefacation cycles, determination of thermodynamic properties of pure substances and their mixtures at different conditions; determination and prediction of phase equilibria (gas-liquid, liquid-liquid, gas-solid) and chemical equilibria.
The course comprises of lectures, tutorials and 2 projects (homework).
