Course title Separation Processes
Lecturer dr hab. inż. Zbigniew Szwast
Semester Winter
Description The purpose of the course is to teach the student the basic separation processes which belong to the area of chemical and process engineering. The course deals with the following multiphase processes: two- and multicomponent, steady and unsteady-state, continuous and periodical, continuous (described by differential equations) and multistage (discrete, described by differentiation equations). It is specially important to improve the students knowledge of process calculation and design.
Prerequisites The knowledge of mathematics (vector analysis, ODE, PDE and differentiation equations), as well as physical chemistry (basic thermodynamics and kinetics of heat and mass transport) is assumed.
Course content The following processes are described, calculated and designed: filtration, solutions concentration by solvent evaporation or freeze, crystallisation, distillation, condensation, rectification, absorption, adsorption, extraction and drying.
