Course title Mixing of Fluids of Complex Rheology I
Lecturer prof. dr hab. in¿. Jerzy Ba³dyga
Semester Spring
Description The course deals with theoretical and practical aspects of mixing of fluids of complex rheology, with a special attention to polymer mixing and processing.
Prerequisites The knowledge of mathematics (vector and tensor calculus, PDE, Fourier transformation), hydraulics, fluid mechanics and process kinetics.
Course content Theoretical aspects of mixing: objectives and definitions of a mixture, the scales of motion and mixing, laminar-flow mixing theory, dispersive and distributive mixing, efficiency of mixing, chaos in dynamical systems, mixing and dispersion in chaotic flows, rheological aspects of mixing, mixing and microrheology of dispersions. Practical aspects of mixing: mixing in the polymer industry, mixing in paper industry, mixing of biological fluids, mixing in extrusion and injection molding, static mixers, stirred tanks, application of special mixers and specific mixing elements, case studies of distributive mixing and dispersive mixing (agglomerates and droplets, textile fabrics).
