Course title Chemical Reactions Engineering
Lecturer prof. dr hab. inż. Ryszard Pohorecki
dr inż. Władysław Moniuk (design projects)
Semester Winter
Description The course deals with the design of chemical reactors and bioreactors, based on the chemical or biochemical kinetics and physical conditions in the reactor (hydrodynamics, mixing, heat and mass transfer etc.)
Prerequisites The knowledge of mathematics (vector analysis, ODE and PDE), as well as physical chemistry (thermodynamics and kinetics of chemical reactions) is assumed.
Course content Ideal reactors (batch, semibatch, CSTR, tubular - isothermal and adiabatic); nonideal reactors (dispersion and cascade models, macro- and micromixing), heterogeneous gas-liquid, liquid-liquid and gas/liquid-solid reactors, catalytic reactors (surface reaction rate, effectiveness of porous catalytic grain, heat effects), bioreactors (enzymatic, biomass production, metabolite production), reactor stability and optimization.
