| Description |
The course deals with the bioreactor design, based on the kinetics of the microorganism growth, kinetics of biochemical reactions and reactor hydrodynamics. |
| Prerequisites |
The knowledge of mathematics (ordinary and partial differential equations, vector calculus) and kinetics of chemical reactions is assumed. |
| Course content |
Kinetics of biomass production and product formation (incl. structured and segregated models), types of bioreactors, transport phenomena in bioprocesses (gas-liquid mass transfer, estimation of kLa, dispersed phase interfacial area, holdup), computations of ideal and nonideal bioreactors, scale-up, influence of hydrodynamic stresses on biological material, bioreactor dynamics (stability analysis), dynamics of mixed microbial populations, enzymatic reactions (simple and complex enzyme kinetics, immobilised enzyme kinetics). |
