Course title Physics II
Lecturer prof. dr hab. Ireneusz Strzałkowski
mgr inż. Kazimierz Mizerski (exercises)
Semester Spring
Description The physics course consists of lectures and exercises. The lecture covers the following topics: electric field mechanics, electronic properties of matter (electronic conductivity), magnetic field, magnetic properties of matter, electromagnetic phenomena, classical theory of electromagnetic field. During exercise classes students solve selected problems of electrostatics and electrodynamics.
Prerequisites High school physics and mathematics. Physics course I (Winter Semester). Differential and integral calculus. Differential equations.
Course content Lecture: Electric field created by charge distribution. Gauss' law. Conductor and dielectric in electric field. Relations among the vectors E, D, P. Rules of electric currents. Drude-Loretz theory of electric conductivity. Concept of magnetic induction. Lorentz force. Motion of an electric charge in E and B fields. Application of Lorentz force in techniques. Ampere's law. Magnetic moments of nuclei, electrons, atoms and electric circuits. Magnetics - para-, dia- and ferromagnetics. Relations among the vectors B, M and H. Electromagnetic phenomena. Maxwell's equations. Electromagnetic wave (EM) propagation in dielectrics. EM wave interaction with matter. Spectrum of electromagnetic waves. Limits of the classical theory of electromagnetic field.
Exercises: Determination of electric fields by helps of Gauss' and superposition methods. Problem solving related to electrodynamics force and Faraday's electromagnetic induction. Solution of Maxwell's equations.
