| Description |
The physics course consists of lectures and exercises. The lecture covers the following topics: classical mechanics (Newtonian), elements of relativistic mechanics, waves and wave phenomena, fundamentals of statistical physics (kinetic theory of gases), fundamentals of phenomenological thermodynamics. During exercises students solve selected problems of mechanics, vibrations, waves and thermodynamics. |
| Prerequisites |
High school physics and mathematics including: elements of differential and integral calculus, and fundamentals of the algebra of vectors. |
| Course content |
Lecture: Dynamics of point mass. Inertial frames of reference. Galileo's transformations. Newton's laws of motion. Lorentz transformations. Elements of relativistic kinetics and dynamics. Non?inertial frames of reference. Inertial forces. Kinetic energy. Work. Potential forces. Conservative and dissipative forces. Potential energy. Principles of conservation of linear momentum, angular momentum and energy. Collisions. Motion in the central force field. Harmonics oscillators: simple, damped and driven. Resonance. Dynamics of rigid body. Propagation of waves. Wave equation. Introductory to the Fourier analysis. Spatial and time interference. Acoustic and optical Doppler effect.
